One Quarter British-Indian Anna
ONE QUARTER ANNA - GEORGE V
COUNTRY- British India
COIN'S YEAR- 1917
YEARS OF MINTAGE- 1912 - 1936
Hi friends. This is my one quarter Indian Anna coin. This coin is just a century old. First of all I would like tell you the value of one quarter Anna. 1/4 Anna = 1 Pice = 1/64 Indian Rupee. I got this coin from my grandpa when I was a sixth grader. This bronze coin weighs 4.72 g , has a diameter of 25.4 mm, and has a thickness of 1.35 mm. Its edge is smooth. The obverse side has the portrait of King George V crowned head left and has the lettering - "GEORGE V KING EMPEROR". The reverse side has the denomination and the coin's year within a circle of beads wreath( an arrangement of flowers, leaves, or stems fastened in a ring and used for decoration ) and a toothed rim surrounds it. The design is so beautiful. The engraver of King George V's portrait was Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal (12 June 1863 – 10 October 1931). Bertram Mackennal was an Australian sculptor and medalist, most famous for designing the coinage and stamps bearing the likeness of George V. It has to be noted that Bertram Mackennal was the engraver of the Tomb for Edward VII who was the predecessor of George V. George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert; 3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936) was the King of the United Kingdom, British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936. This coin has no dot under the date on the reverse side which means that this coin has been minted in Calcutta. The mintage of this coin was about 69,370,000 in the year 1917. I really love the design in the reverse side of this coin. Thank You for spending your valuable time in reading my blog and supporting me. Again THANK YOU.
